                            In 2010, American Express founded Small Business Saturday to help businesses with their most pressing need — getting more customers. The day encourages people to shop at small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The single day has grown into a powerful movement, and more people are taking part than ever before. This year, the big day is November 29, 2014, and the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce would like to encourage customers to Shop Small and support small businesses in the Grapevine area!

    Recently, some of our members have received phone calls from people saying that they work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield. These callers have asked for personal information, including Social Security numbers. In some cases, the callers have even asked about recent doctor visits. We believe these calls may be part of a health insurance “scam.” People may pretend to work for real companies to get your personal information.     Enforcement Delayed for Health Plan Identifier Regulations

    On October 31, 2014, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that, until further notice, it will delay enforcement of regulations related to obtaining the Health Plan Identifier (HPID) and using the HPID in Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) transactions that were adopted in the HPID final rule. This enforcement delay applies to all HIPAA covered entities, including health care providers, fully insured and self-funded health plans, and health care clearinghouses. The National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics (NCVHS), an advisory body to HHS, issued a written recommendation asking HHS to review the HPID requirement.  The NCVHS recommended that the HPID not be used in…
